  • Microsoft releases a new version of Notepad.
  • The app is available as a preview in the Dev Channel.
  • The new Notepad has a new UI and dark mode support.

The new Notepad app is now available through the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 devices enrolled in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. (See also the hands-on video with the new version of the app at the Pureinfotech YouTube channel.)

The new retains the familiar look like the classic version. However, you will notice new visual changes that align with the Windows 11 design language with rounded corners, the new dynamic Mica material that shines through the desktop colors, and more.

In this first preview, Notepad is getting new menus with the same options as before. On the right, you will see an option to access the settings page, where you can change the font and the most important feature, the theme color.

Yes, Microsoft has finally done it. The Notepad app now comes with dark mode support. By default, the app will respect the color more of Windows 11, but you can switch between the light and dark mode from the settings page. In addition, Notepad now also includes a new find and replace interface (Ctrl + F), and now there is support for multi-level undo.
