Microsoft has released the first update for its new Surface Laptop 4 and for a couple of other devices, including Surface Duo and Pro X.
These firmware updates are available for devices running Windows 10 20H1 or higher and Android 10 in the Duo case. The updates are meant to improve stability and fix several problems.
According to the company support page, the update for the Surface Laptop 4 came out on April 15. The one for Surface Pro X rolled out on April 22, and the one for Surface Duo was released on April 27.
April 2021 update for Surface Laptop 4
These are the changes for the Laptop 4 with Intel processor:
- Intel Iris Xe Graphics 27.20.100.8861: Improves system telemetry, logging, and event records for graphics issues.
April 2021 update for Surface Pro X
Here’s what is improved and changed with the Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices:
- Qualcomm Advanced Modem Subsystem Device 10400.1.77.3: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Adreno 680 GPU 27.20.1460.0: Improves graphics performance, system stability, and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Bluetooth Radio Driver 1.0.1460.0: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Bluetooth UART Transport Driver 1.0.1460.0: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Bus Device 1.0.1360.0: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Bus Device 1.0.1440.0: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Qualcomm Data Device 1.0.1460.0: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.

- Surface System Aggregator 1.108.139.0: Improves system stability.
- Surface Touch Firmware 5.0.121.139: Improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 devices.
- Surface UEFI 7.563.140.0: Improves system stability.
April 2021 update for Surface Duo
The Surface Duo (locked AT&T) received these fixes and improvements on Android:
- Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin – April 2020.
- Improves device stability and UI stability.
- Improves device performance when opening and closing apps, accessing your recent apps or swiping up to see all your apps.
- Fixes the scenario where the wallpaper was not appearing after unlocking Surface Duo.
- Fixes the scenario where a notification badge appears on top of a running app and causes the screen to turn black.
Unlocked Surface Duos in North America and Europe received these improvements:
- Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin – April 2020.
- Improves device stability and UI stability.
- Improves device performance when opening and closing apps, accessing your recent apps, or swiping up to see all your apps.
- Fixes the scenario where the wallpaper was not appearing after unlocking Surface Duo.
- Fixes the scenario where a notification badge appears on top of a running app and causes the screen to turn black.
The update should download and install automatically, but you go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually if you have not received it.
