How to enable File Explorer compact mode on Windows 10

On Windows 10, File Explorer is getting a new default layout that adds extra patting between the visual elements to make the experience easier to use on touch-enabled devices.

The new layout is available starting with build 21337, but Windows 10 is also adding an option to switch to the classic mode on the “Folders Options” page if you prefer the traditional design.

Enable File Explorer compact mode on Windows 10

To use the compact layout on File Explorer, use these steps:

  1. Open File Explorer on Windows 10.

  2. Click the View tab.
